Terms of service
Fair and transparent terms for our free, open-source video editor. Contact us if you have any questions.
Your Content, Your Rights
You own everything you create. All editing and processing happens locally on your device. We never see, store, or have access to your files. We make no claims to ownership, licensing, or rights over your videos, projects, or any content you create using CinePilot.
- Your content never leaves your device
- You retain all intellectual property rights to your content
- You can export and use your content however you choose
- No watermarks, no licensing restrictions from CinePilot
How You Can Use CinePilot
CinePilot is free for personal and commercial use. You can:
- Create videos for personal, educational, or commercial purposes
- Use CinePilot for client work and paid projects
- Share and distribute videos created with CinePilot
- Modify and distribute the CinePilot software (under MIT license)
You're responsible for how you use CinePilot and the content you create. Don't use it for anything illegal in your jurisdiction.
AI Features
AI features like auto captions run entirely in your browser using on-device models. No content is uploaded to any server. These features are optional - you can use CinePilot without them.
AI Generation, Connected Models & Your Outputs
CinePilot is a creative tool. We do not bundle, host, or distribute any generative AI models, checkpoints, LoRAs, or datasets. Generation happens through models and services you choose and connect yourself — your own API keys (BYOK), your own ComfyUI instance, or third-party catalogs such as CivitAI that you browse and download into your own environment.
- You own your outputs. We claim no ownership over the images, video, audio, text, or other content you generate.
- We do not use your inputs or outputs to train AI models.
- When you use a connected third-party model or service, your use is also governed by that provider's terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party models you choose to run, nor for their training data, licenses, or behavior.
- AI output can be inaccurate, derivative, or unexpected. You are responsible for verifying outputs are appropriate and lawful for your use case before relying on or publishing them.
Acceptable Use & Prohibited Content
You are solely responsible for the inputs you provide and the content you generate, publish, or distribute using CinePilot. You agree that you will not use CinePilot — including by means of any connected model or service — to create, upload, request, or distribute:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content that sexualizes, depicts, or endangers minors, including stylized or AI-generated depictions. This is strictly prohibited and reported where required by law.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content depicting a real, identifiable person without their consent.
- Deceptive synthetic media (deepfakes) designed to impersonate a real individual without their consent, including for fraud, defamation, or political deception.
- Content that infringes or misappropriates the intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights of others — including using models, likenesses, or source material you do not have the right to use.
- Content that promotes or facilitates illegal activity, incites violence or hatred against a person or group, or is intended to harass, defame, or harm others.
- Malware, or attempts to disrupt, abuse, or circumvent the security or rate limits of CinePilot or any connected service.
We take reasonable measures to discourage prohibited uses (for example, blocking searches that signal CSAM), but enforcement ultimately depends on you using the tool lawfully. We may remove content, suspend access, and report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.
Adult Content (18+)
CinePilot ships with no adult content, and adult-oriented features are disabled by default. If you self-enable adult-capable models or features where the law permits, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and that you will keep such content away from minors and comply with all applicable laws. You remain fully responsible for any adult content you generate, and the prohibitions above (including the absolute ban on minor-related content and non-consensual imagery) always apply.
Community Showcase & Published Works
CinePilot may let you publish projects, genre IP, or media to a public community showcase, and to like or comment on others' work. When you publish or offer something for sale, you represent that:
- You own or have all rights necessary to publish, display, and (where applicable) sell it, and it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
- It complies with the Acceptable Use rules above.
- You grant CinePilot a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, display, and promote the content you choose to publish, solely to operate and showcase the service. You can remove your published content at any time.
You are responsible for your interactions with other users and the content they publish. We may remove content, restrict accounts, or respond to valid intellectual-property takedown requests. To report infringing or prohibited content, email support@cinepilot.app.
Service
CinePilot does not currently require an account. The service is provided "as is" without warranties. While we strive for reliability, we can't guarantee uninterrupted service.
Local-First by Design
CinePilot runs on your own machine, so you have full control:
- Your projects, media, and prompts stay on your device
- You bring your own model API keys
- Generated artifacts are versioned files you own outright
Limitations and Liability
CinePilot is provided free of charge. To the extent permitted by law:
- We're not liable for any loss of data or content
- Projects are stored in your browser and may be lost if you clear browser data
- We're not responsible for how you use the service
- Our liability is limited to the maximum extent allowed by law
Since your content stays on your device, we have no way to recover lost projects. Consider exporting important videos when finished editing.
Service Changes
We may update CinePilot and these terms:
- We'll notify you of significant changes to these terms
- Continued use means you accept any updates
- You can always self-host an older version if you prefer
- Major changes will be discussed with the community on GitHub
Stopping Use
You can stop using CinePilot at any time:
- Clear your browser data to remove local projects
